Video: Lucy Rose – Seattle KEXP Session (5th April 2013)

KEXP.ORG presents Lucy Rose performing live in the KEXP studio. Recorded April 5th, 2013.

When England’s Lucy Rose came in to KEXP’s studios, the friendly, unassuming songwriter didn’t give much of a hint of the powerhouse performance that was about to come out. When she began singing a set of songs from her 2012 debut, Like I Used To, the Surrey chanteuse released a For Emma-level emotional hurricane. Containing more than a few wounded barbs (“Is this what you call love?”) in between verses of bright-eyed optimism, the set showcased full spectrum of Rose’s songwriting range while serving as a testament to how powerful a spartan vocals-and-guitar arrangement can be. Watch the swiftly-growing songwriter play a four-song set and talk about the first time she rode a motorcycle below.
